Reading Landscape: Country, City, Capital (Cultural Politics)

This collection of essays examines historical aspects of the complex relationship of country, city and capital from the mid-18th century when landscape representations formed part of the ideological setting for the passage from rural to metropolitan capitalism, in relation to a number of landscape modes from Turner and Constable to the recent Garden Festivals.
