An increasing number of patients presented for anaesthesia and surgery have a significant co-existing medical disease. This book describes the assessment and optimization of patients prior to surgery. Risk analysis and cost benefit of treatment as well as implications of consent are considered. Preoperative starvation and medication are also considered.
