Women's War (Home Front)

This series examines what life was like for people in Britain during World War II. Each title takes a different aspect of civilian life and looks at its dangers, difficulties and pleasures. Much of the story is told by eye-witness accounts. This book describes the contribution that women made to the war effort during World War II. It shows how women coped with the disruption caused by rationing, evacuation and separation from their loved ones. It explains the contribution they made to the war economy, working in factories and on the land. It also provides an insight into the role of women in the armed forces, from cooking and cleaning to ferrying fighter aircraft and working as secret agents in occupied France. The author has also written "War At Home", "War in Europe" and "War in the Far East".
