Happy Tomorrow

Josephine Wells is orphaned at 12 when her brother, sister and widowed mother are killed in the bombing of 1942. She goes to live with her aunt in Battersea and is relieved to escape the confines and drudgery of her rooming house when, at 15, she takes a series of jobs.
