The 4th edition of the head and neck volume in the operative surgery series is intended for all disciplines involved in the management of head and neck tumours and contains information relevant to surgeons of all grades and experience. With new editors and contributors, the text has been completely rewritten and is complemented by 1100 new shaded line illustrations. The book is published in two volumes: the first, written mainly by Ian McGregor, covers general considerations of head and neck cancer and reconstructive techniques of the skin, facial structures and oral cavity, while the second, written by David Howard and contributors from both the UK and USA, covers tumours of the pharynx, larynx and flaps, craniofacial surgery and osseointegrated/prosthetic techniques are covered. While focusing on the operative procedures, the text aims to consider them in the context of the clinical situations apppropriate to their use and discusses preoperative and postoperative management indications, and contraindications. It does not aim to include all the operative procedures which have been described, but concentrates on those found to be of greatest value.
