Description

Bonjou! Hello! Thank you for buying this dictionary. The proceeds from this book are going straight to the Save The Children UK Haiti Earthquake Appeal, to help children on the island after the devastating earthquake in Haiti just a few months ago. This book has been illustrated by children at the North London International School, a small school which values international awareness and charity work very highly. Many of the students listed 'Unit of Inquiry' as their favourite lesson, and this is very telling, as it involves looking at the world around us and seeing how it could be improved. This is the second illustrated dictionary that I have produced with the help of a group of children to raise money. The first, in Swahili, was illustrated by a group of Tanzanian street children to raise money for their Home. This one has been created in Haitian Creole, which is one of the two official languages in Haiti, along with French. It is based on 18th century French, and the pronunciation is very French, but has influences from several other languages, and is spoken in several other Caribbean countries, as well as Canada and the USA. By buying this book, you are making a difference to children living in one of the poorest and troubled areas of the world. Thank you. Mesi. Rosie Thomas, March 2010
