Volume 1 of 2. The history of Egypt from the earliest times until the conquest by the Arabians in A.D. 640. The author does not treat the literature and religion separately from political events, but throws them together in the form of annals. The history of Egypt and its people remind us that no wealth, no arts, no literature, can save a nation from ruin, unless it has the wish to check its own vices. Both volumes are richly illustrated with wood cuts.
