Microsoft has integrated Web Services into its .NET package allowing users to build distributed applications using software that runs on different operating systems and devices, using different programming languages, and using tools from multiple vendors. This means that users can now build web applications that run on everything from desktops to hand-held, that use a variety of databases, and are built using everything from C and Visual Basic to Java and Pearl.
