Divided Knowledge presents nine of the keynote papers prepared for the historic Beijing Symposium sponsored by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

In this collection the disciplines of sociology, political science, philosophy, literary theory and history are included as well as the interdisciplinary fields of public policy, area studies and business management.
