The purpose of this book is to demonstrate how the history and philosophy of science can be applied by teachers and curriculum writers to the effective teaching of science. The author provides a conceptual foundation for an alternative approach to science education. The book is divided into four parts: an overview of existing curricula; teaching and learning practices; an historical context of the changes that have taken place in the history and philosophy of science; and the practical application of the tenets of the history and philosophy of science to modern theories of learning and teaching.
