The United States and Latin America

Appropriate for the beginning researcher, The United States and Latin America: A Select Bibliography is meant to provide the reader with a convenient description of the content of books and articles in the area of United States-Latin American relations. The 200-300 word annotations provided are intended to give the reader an understanding of the main themes or topics as well as some of the specialized areas that are covered in depth.

The six chapters provide a solid overview of the background and present history of U.S.- Latin American relations. The first two chapters serve as an introduction to the study, providing the researcher with not only a background on what is meant by the diplomatic and international histories of this approach, but also as an introduction to broad-based books that deal with large themes in U.S-Latin American relations or cover the histories of several countries in the region. Subsequent chapters deal with nineteenth-century background and history, twentieth-century international history and individual regions in Latin America and their relations to the U.S., and video documentaries.
