From Foreword: "A check list for theatre builders, designers, and architects should point out most of the possibilities and dangers inherent in each area of the structure to be built. While it should include enough precise information to forestall the worst mistakes that might be made, it should not be so rigid that it restricts the creative imagination of those involved. When, for instance, it recommends that the planners consider the installation of a revolving stage, it does not mean that such a device is always desirable. Nor does it give it priority over any other scene-changing device. Obviously each such device requires the expenditure of a specific sum of money, and its proportionate long-term value must be weighed against the availability of funds...."
