In this book the authors ask the question "what is development?" and they invite the people of the world to respond. Is development economic growth, or is it the creation of a new basis for preserving cultural identity? Who should determine developmental policies? On whom should we rely to see these policies through? Combining broad questions with specific case studies, the authors suggest that a new world order is both attainable and desirable.
