Description ▲
In 'Tales of the City of God', Carlos Valles gleans parables from all times and cultures for consideration by contemporary readers. One catches here echoes of the master author of biblical examples: "Those who have ears, let them hear." Valles's fables are drawn from both Eastern and Western traditions, and each is complemented by Valles's thoughts and reflections. Readers may find some of the names and places in these stories foreign, but the human weaknesses and troubles will be familiar to all. Throughout 'Tales of the City of God', Valles uses his life experience and wisdom to focus our reading of these fables and to help guide us in self-reflection. Carlos Valles was born in Spain but moved early in his life to India, where he was ordained a priest the Society of Jesus. He then worked for many years as a professor of mathematics at St. Xavier's College, Ahmedebad. Valles began his writing career in the Gujarati language and won the Rujitram Gold Medal, the highest award in India, for his literary efforts. After retiring from his university chair, Valles turned to writing in English and Spanish, bringing to the spiritual and psychological fields his Western roots and his Eastern branches. He continues to write and gives courses on Oriental spirituality in India and abroad.
