In this oft-quoted remark, Pascal was not referring to feelings or hunches, but to our intuitions of self-evidency such as those we have for "the first principles of number, time, space and motion." He follows this with the startling comment that religious truth is known in the same way: "Those to whom God has imparted religion by intuition are very fortunate and justly convinced."
