Letters of George Gissing to Members of His Family

These are family letters, telling about the writing of his books and about his travels. The first letters are written from America where he went when he was nineteen, staying for a year. The letters are simple and grave marked throughout by a strong family affection, and by the depression and isolation of his life. The letters are supplemented by extracts from his diary.
