About the author: Steven B. Karch has appeared as an expert witness in international cases, including advice to counsel in the Harold Shipman murder trial. He is an assistant medical examiner in San Francisco, where he consults on cases of drug-related deaths. He received his bachelors degree from Brown University, did graduate work in cell biology and biophysics at Stanford, and received his M.D. from Tulane University Medical School.
