Description ▲
Glad Rags is a sourcebook for librarians, teachers, and adults working with young children. It is a sequel to Mudluscious: Stories and Activities Featuring Food for Preschool Children (Libraries Unlimited, 1986) in its purpose and structure. Both books introduce quality picture-book literature and extend that literature through a variety of enrichment activities. Each chapter is structured in parallel form. The chapter introduction presents the overall theme and purpose of each subject. It is followed by an initiating activity to introduce children to the books and activities on the subject. The literature section of each chapter first annotates picture books on a sub theme, then includes related literature activities - finger plays, action rhymes, poems, songs, flannel-board stories, cut-and-tell and draw-and-tell stories, as well as more unusual presentation methods (for example, tube stories and story wheels). Games follow the quieter literature activities, and crafts provide another change of pace. Each chapter is concluded with display suggestions since the clothes theme especially lends itself to a visual approach. Many of the craft projects children make from this book will also become appealing displays themselves.
