Islands (Stella)

When Laura experiences the winter landscape at the lake and the three islands for the first time, she wonders what the fish might be doing under the frozen mass of ice, leaves a shiny apple for a deer whose tracks she found, and finds another use for the rock she uses as a diving board in the summer.
