A refining of the third edition of "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" to serve the psychiatric field in the interim period before the forth edition of this classification system is published in the mid-1990s. The text has been revised to include the latest data, with expanded sections on substance abuse, sleep disorders and a reorganization of the multi-axial system. The entire text has been redesigned with individual criteria alphabetized within major classifications wherever possible. Page numbers have been triple reference in the classification, table of contents and the index.
