The Role of Sea Power in U.S. National Security in the Twenty-First Century: A Consensus Report of the Csis Working Group on Undersea Warfare (Csis Report)

The vast majority of submarine and undersea warfare analysis since the dissolution of the Soviet Union has focused on near-term trends and issues. This report provides a reassessment or "new look" at the meaning of sea power at the dawn of a new century and at the contributions of modern sea power to U.S. national security. It identifies long-range trends so as to determine their potential impact on U.S. maritime and national security interests. Furthermore, the report assesses the ability of the United States to counter future threats to these interests and suggests policy recommendations and undersea warfare force structure options to ensure their preservation.
