Church and State in Independent Mexico: A Study of the Patronage Debate, 1821-1857 (Royal Historical Society Studies in History)

This examination of the evolution of the controversy over ecclesiastical patronage suggests that the oligarchy which assumed independent control after independence was by no means isolated from the mainstream of European Roman Catholic thought.
