Jim Taylor angrily leaves home after high school graduation. He works his way through college and becomes an accountant. At age thirty-four, Jim is inhibited in his social and sexual relations due to his early religious indoctrination. He believes his social and sexual problems are solved when he meets the sensible Myrna. Unfortunately for Jim, Myrna marries another and Jim is left to try to recoup his composure. Cindy Fortune is Jim's counterpart at the firm. She is twenty-four years old and tired of the losers with whom friends fix her up. She wends her way through different relationships. Both she and Jim are on a collision course. Other interesting characters are Mr. Perkins and his sexy secretary Gloria, friend Edward and his alluring wife Nancy, colleague Janice who keeps an eye on Jim, Agnes the company physician, Kirby the whiskey salesman, Phil the aging lothario as well as many others.
