First Things First: A Primer in Lutheran Theological Prolegomena

Christian theology in any form is meaningful and useful only when it arises from and then serves and supports the church's proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thus begins David Lumpp's exploration into the first things of theology. Especially since the postmodern turn, there has been renewed focus on the presuppositions of the theological task. Lumpp sharpens this focus by bringing to light the distinctive assumptions and emphases of Christian theology, particularly from a Lutheran perspective. Only by keeping the first things first, can the trajectory of Christian theology generate meaning for life in today's world.
