In the 1950s and early 1960s, Wes was a pioneer in the UFO research field. After decades of silence and no media contact, he finally went on record about how his experiences and ideas were passed along to Gene Roddenberry, who subsequently incorporated a number of the ideas that Wes had proposed into the famous Star Trek television and movie series. These ideas include the Federation itself, warp drive, and the prime directive.
Mr. Bateman made a clear distinction between his telepathic communications, in which information was exchanged with various extraterrestrial physical beings, and the channeling process wherein the energy or spirit of another being comes into the channel's body and speaks through him or her.
