Description ▲
With the increasing popularity of both snorkeling and scuba diving, more and more enthusiasts are traveling to the warm, clear waters of the Caribbean to explore nature's wondrous creation - the coral reef. This book is designed to fill a need perceived by the authors, who have spent several years teaching marine biology and providing services for divers in the Caribbean. Field guides to the fishes of the Caribbean are plentiful - some are even submersible! However, sports divers and even biologists are awed and frequently confused by the invertebrates and algae they encounter. Large or small, colorful or drab, common or rare, reef invertebrates can be a source of endless hours of enjoyable study for the diving reefwatcher and the underwater photographer, especially if a compact field guide to the invertebrates is close at hand. This book provides such a guide. Steve Webster studied biology at Stanford, taught invertebrate zoology at San jose State University, led summer marine biology courses for divers in the Caribbean and in 1978 joined the Monterey Bay Aquarium project and is now their Director of Education. Nancy Sefton has lived in the Cayman islands since 1971 as a free-lance photo-journalist specializing in marine life. Her photos have been published in Time-Life, Reader's Digest, by the Audubon Society, Cambridge University and many more.
