Rails Across the Tundra: A Historical Album of the Alaska Railroad

Like the transcontinental railroads of the American West, the Alaska Railroad opened up vast new frontiers for settlement. It was completed in 1923 and spawned cities along its route. It is, and probably will remain, the last of the major rail lines to be hacked out of the North American Wilderness.
