Growing up stubborn at Gold Creek

Melody Erickson came to Alaska at age 10 when her family left San Francisco for the Alaska wilderness. They staked a homestead near Gold Creek south of Denali National Park. Divided in their purpose of wanting to conquer the wilderness or longing to escape, they struggled to eke out an existence on the land.
