Description ▲
Medieval Enamels and Sculptures from The Keir Collection exhibition catalog. With the exhibition of the Keir Collection, one of the world's finest private collections of Medieval and Renaissance enamels and small sculptures, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art inaugurates the celebration of its 50th Anniversary not only by recognizing the importance of private collectors but also by presenting an excellent view of an important segment of European art only scantily represented in the permanent collections. Assembled after World War II by Ernst and Martha Kofler-Truniger of Lucerne, Switzerland, the collection was exhibited in Zurich in 1964 and Aachen in 1965. Acquired in 1971 by its current owner, who augmented and refined it, the Keir Collection is a monument to a collector's taste and acumen. The current exhibition in Kansas City provides the first opportunity to view the entire collection. Dr. Stokstad's catalogue is intended to introduce the layman to the collection and to the study of enamels. We hope this guide will enrich the viewer's appreciation of an unfamiliar but strong and beautiful art.
