Description

This book deals with the identification of promising business enterprises, their feasibility and viability appraisal, documentation for bank financing and monitoring. It distinguishes such enterprises from 'sunset projects' and is specially structured for use by all those interested in both new and existing economic ventures requiring restructuring. Apart from covering the legal and other classifications of different forms of financial instruments used in the world of corporate finance, the book draws attention to the distinction between financial and economic analysis. One whole chapter is devoted to the peculiar problems of small and medium-scale enterprises [SMEs] in which many policy makers, banks, development finance institutions, business promoters and their consultants are especially interested. The book is however structured in a way that does commend it also to those interested in much bigger enterprises. The author [whose fuller background is given inside the book] happens to have had the opportunity and pleasure of being trained by both The World Bank at its EDI, in and outside Washington DC, USA, as well as by the former [British] Commonwealth Development Corporation [CDC]. He spent almost his entire working life in development finance institutions during which he was Managing Director and CEO for nearly ten years. He played rather crucial roles in spearheading the promotion and financing of big and small enterprises with special credits from The World Bank and other major national and international credit institutions around the world. With educational background that spans theoretical economics, accounting, statistics and commercial law, he is well endowed in terms of academic, professional, and occupational background that encompasses pure Government business at Cabinet Ministerial level, to write authoritatively on all aspects of this most important subject.
