This book concerns the task of developing a logical, systematic approach to government "management" of a competitive free market capitalist economy by means of government taxes and expenditures, budget deficits or surpluses and monetary policy. Namely, how national governments can achieve low inflation and steady growth of incomes by means of intelligent fiscal budget and monetary policy.

All aspects of government management of the economy are discussed, including growth of national output, employment, saving and investment, budgets, finance and foreign trade. The book closes with a section in which Dr. Robinson makes suggestions for improvement of the U.S. Government's management of the U.S. economy.
