In the years when George Wallace ws riding high and Eugene "Bull" Connor ruled as Birmingham racisit city commissioner some citizens worked for change and acceptance of the demands of the Black Civil Rights Movement.

The book recounts the terror of the bombings, the spying on citizens and the abuse of citizens by the police. This is not a book about Klansmen but about the extraordinary men and women who took many risks to get rid of a segregated and oppressive city government.
