Description

The current AACE Mentoring Program emerged from a pilot study sponsored by AACE’s Diversity Task Force, Women in Project Controls and Young Professionals Committee in 2010. The pilot study confirmed the need for a self-guided mentoring program that would accelerate the involvement of a new generation of leaders within AACE and foster an environment of inclusiveness in the professions we serve. In 2010, the AACE Board of Directors provided financial, volunteer and staff support to fully implement the next phase of the Mentoring Program which includes this handbook, orientation training materials and a recognition program for mentoring partners. AACE International is committed to providing support and guidance to the mentoring partnerships registered formally with the Association. This support includes orienting the partners as to what expect from the mentoring process, providing quality written materials to structure the mentoring relationship and guidance throughout the mentoring journey. The AACE Mentoring Handbook is the result of collaboration between AACE International, a professional association representing more than 7,000 individual members engaged in cost engineering and total cost management projects, and Dr. Matt M. Starcevich, Ph.D., the founder of the Center for Coaching & Mentoring, Inc. The material presented in the AACE Mentoring Partner Handbook has been customized to reflect some of the specific requirements and preferences of AACE but uses the core processes and procedures embodied in Dr. Starcevich’s Mentoring Partner Handbook. The Center for Coaching and Mentoring, Inc. retains all rights to the material incorporated in this handbook. We encourage mentoring partners to use this book as a guidebook to creating a solid foundation for the mentoring relationship. By sharing the same terminology, defining expectations and delineating goals and roles as suggested in this handbook, we believe you are more likely to have an enriching and fulfilling mentoring experience.
