On a hot August day in 1780, Indians attacked two settlers near Fort Nashborough. William Neely was killed and scalped and his 19-year-old daughter Mary was captured. Taken hundreds of miles from home through hostile Indian Territory, she was renamed "Songbird" for her beautiful voice and made a slave to the chieftain's wife. For a two-year period, she tried repeatedly to escape, only to be recaptured time and again. But she never gave up hope of becoming a free woman and reuniting with her family. Based on a true story.
