Anna Botsford Comstock had a mission in life: to train people to enjoy nature by seeing how creatures live rather that watching them die. Almost 100 years ago, Anna led the movement to teach children how to appreciate and preserve our gifts of nature. Teachers and students today still learn from "Handbook of Nature Study", the book Anna wrote in 1911. In "A Love Affair with Nature: The Story of Anna Botsford Comstock", you will meet a farm girl who lived at a time when electricity and running water were not to be found in the home. She enjoyed playing with friends, reading books, and going to the circus. But unlike most girls of her time, Anna continued her education. She was a member of the first class of women enrolled in Cornell University Anna never set our to be "the first" at anything. But where she saw an opportunity she seized it. Where she saw a need, she did what she could to help. When the State of New York faced a farming crisis, they turned to Anna to help solve it. In the process she created the master plan for nature study in schools. This book is for readers 8 and up. It includes two nature study lessons from "Handbook of Nature Study."
