God's Self-Revelation: A Course in Theology Proper

From the Introduction: What does this mean for us as we venture into the study of Theology, and particularly the study of God’s self-revelation, or Theology Proper? It means that we must constantly be aware of our own limitations, and that as we lay hold of the truth, we do so as recipients of that truth, not as originators of it. Moreover, even as we affirm certainty in our own knowledge of God and His works, there is no place for pride. For not only is our knowledge of God that which we have received and not of our own making, but we are always cognizant of the fact that our knowledge is incomplete— there is always more that we need to learn and practice. Thus, humility before God is a necessary pre-requisite for knowing Him: “The fear of Adonai is the beginning of knowledge….” (Prov 1:7).
