How Mom Got a Life

Kate Martin is a sheltered housewife and mother of eighteen years standing who suddenly finds herself divorced. A lot of role-reversal goes on as her three kids watch their heretofore calm, collected mother turn into a quivering mass of insecurities as she faces her new role of single parent. In many ways, Kate has a lot more growing up to do than her kids. Applying for jobs, Kate finds that technology has passed her by. Typewriters are out, computers are in and she doesn’t have a clue. The kids are at their wit’s end. How can they get this mother of theirs to believe in herself? Kate asks herself the same question and, realizing she can’t change the world, sets about reinventing herself. The kids look on in dismay as she goes from vamp to Edwardian Miss to Yogi, all without success. Finally, Kate turns to books and discovers the power of the mind. Her modus operandi becomes, "You get what you think about!" a premise the kids laugh right out of the water until, in a move that dismays even herself, Kate proves her point. Set in Florida in the present day, this is a funny, fast-moving story with a very upbeat ending in which all mothers, married or single, will not only see themselves through the super-critical of their kids, but in reading of Kate’s bumbling efforts to cope are sure to take heart and feel a little less intimidated by all the "super Moms" out there.
