Description

Like the winemakers he visited, Robert Louis Stevenson bottled the flavors of the Napa Valley in the summer of 1880. He had just married Fanny Osbourne and, with her son, the new family set up camp in a bunkhouse near an abandoned silver mine. The unique characters and serene beauty of the valley gave the young author much to write about. He was dubbed by some locals "the scribbler" for his habit of journalistic notetaking. Except for a few poems, this was the author's first work published in America, and it laid the foundation for his popularity here. Beautifully written, this travelogue is classic Stevenson. Silverado Squatters is narrated by world class talent, Francis Balfour. Mr. Balfour has a long list of credits that include the BBC, television and film. Like Stevenson, he grew up in Scotland, and as a child loved to recite Stevenson's poems.
