"Athens' Day in the Sun" is the story of an early high school basketball dynasty in the small town of Athens, Texas from 1927 through 1934. The huge success of these Athens Hornet teams was of strong national interest and enhanced the popularity of the sport of basketball. The account begins with Athens long struggle to become competitive and then covers their amazing successes during the glory years. Along the way, the book sets about to describe the way of life in rural East Texas during the twenties and thirties. Included are over 150 photos, box scores, and illustrations with some photos being published for the first time.
