Description

Six short stories describing the hardships and tragedy of people living the barrios of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The characters in these stories are placed mainly during the time of the Trujillo Dictatorship (1930-1961), and during the 12 of the regime of his succesor, Joaquin Balaguer (1966-1978). These barrios are located around the edge of the dirty waters of the Ozama River, and their inhabitants share one reality: the misery caused by abject poverty. Some make out of the Gualey, others ask, where is God? There are no easy answers, maybe better questions. Most dare to dream of a better life--even as their reality is trully a nightmare.
