This book examines Fedora 11 for the user. Though administrative tools are covered, the emphasis is on what a user would need to know to perform tasks. The emphasis here is on what users face when using Fedora, covering topics like installation, applications, software management, the GNOME and KDE desktops, shell commands, and both the Fedora administration and network tools. Desktop effects as implemented by GNOME's Compiz-fusion and KDE's KWin are examined. New features are covered in detail like Gnome Bluetooth, the new PulseAudio volume control, Network Manager changes, DeviceKit and Palimpsest storage and media management, the Printing interface modifications, PackageKit's upgrade interface, GNOME's Brasero disk burning integration, PolicyKit control for more tools like Printing and Network Manager, and the RPM Fusion repository for free and nonfree third party packages like multimedia codecs. Also additional desktops and installs are reviewed including XFCE, LXDE, Sugar (OLPC), and Omega (multimedia).
