The Longest Wooden Railroad: A Season of Embers

In the 1920s, a wooden railroad was built in the Coast Range mountains of Oregon to transport lumber and logs to market. This fictional story tells the community’s story of its efforts to become early entrepreneurs as they create a transportation system to bring their product—lumber—to market. Railroad workers begin receiving shares of stock in lieu of wages; their confidence remains unshaken. But, rumors force desperate measures by those who know secrets. Amidst the growing economic uncertainty of 1929, a railroad built on wooden rails holds the promise of wealth for a whole community. The completion of the last half-mile of track, however, will change them all.
