They depict a neighborhood park, imagined and realized by the Park’s founder, Llewellyn Haskell: a place of “country homes for city people,” whose “beauty of situation…must be seen to be appreciated.” As you tour Llewellyn Park through the lens of these postcards, you’ll also find reminiscences from the past, contributed by current or former residents. These memories offer a glimpse of life in the Park during the past century: the thrill of exploring the Glen, the warmth of celebrating holidays with neighbors, the adventure of encountering famous people (Thomas Edison, Eleanor Roosevelt) and infamous creatures (Aldis Squire’s chimpanzee, the crow that stole Mrs. Murray’s necklace). Living in the Park was – and still is – a joy.
