Victorio Finder wants to become a great Finder like his father, but staying behind instead of joining him on expedition to rediscover the Spice Way was a mistake. His Finding skills have not only vanished, all attempts to Find his father knock him out cold-until he is given a key that triggers a Finder's vision of burning mountains and silent wings. Braving the stormy Bloodbane Sea, Vic seeks out Myrie Raleven; but the help she gives leads him through a Dead City, down the drought-dry Bihn Iabba River and into the Dragonback Mountains where those who go in never come out.
