Description ▲
Unique pistols are Ruby type pistols manufactured by MAPF in France, before, during, and after WW2 and are mainly known to collectors due to their use by the Germans in the Second World War. In addition to the Model 16, Model 17, and Kriegsmodell used by the Wehrmacht, MAPF offered ten other models based on Browning designs, a small line of Mikros, Walther Model 9 copies, and numerous trade pistols for gun sellers in France and beyond. My book explains all of this; beginning with a history of the company and the design background of the pistols. Some of the founders of MAPF produced Uniques in Spain before moving to France. The book covers in detail every model made by both the original company in Spain and the more renown French company, along with the information and illustrations which will allow collectors to accurately identify each of the many variations. The familiar Model 17, used by the Germans in WW2 and upgraded into the Kriegsmodell has 21 variations if you count post-war upgrades and over 30 pistols are illustrated front and back on this one series alone! All known variations of slide inscriptions, grips, and magazines, and marks found on Uniques are illustrated in a chapter covering each individual component of these pistols. A serial number timeline is provided to allow collectors quickly estimate the age of a pistol. Full chapters are dedicated to the Mikros line as well as all of the trade pistols, including a comprehensive list of trade names. Nearly 50 holsters are illustrated, front and back, in the accessories chapter. The book concludes with a very thorough bibliography, descriptions of all of the post-war Unique brand pistols, and a serial number database of over 500 pistols to let collectors continue their own research. This book is a must for any collector of Unique Pistols and will be of interest to other collectors of classic semi-automatic handguns as well. This will be a limited run. It has over 200 illustrations.
