Description ▲
This workbook is to provide an economical introduction to learning the Great Highland Bagpipes and/or Scottish Drums. It will provide the basic theory, methods, and exercises required to play your first tune on either practice instrument. It is not intended to be a do-it-yourself manual, unless you have previous musical training. It is encouraged to be used with a qualified instructor as not to pick up bad habits at the onset. The workbook also provides a basic understanding of the history of piping and drumming, the anatomy of each instrument and identification of basic highland dress. Successful completion will hopefully encourage and enable you to continue your studies with a local pipe band or instructor. Capt. Robbie Maclnnis, MB, CD and Sgt. Terry Gottschall, CD compiled this workbook. Both are avid players and instructors with over 30 years experience each in military and civilian pipe bands. They have worked closely drafting, implementing, and instructing training programs for youth and adult piping and drumming, such as the Canadian Cadet Program locally, regionally, nationally and numerous Nova Scotia pipe bands.
