Description

on a recent trip to the Orkneys where the cover pictures were taken for this anthology, SB met a fellow poet and showed him the first and last poems in this anthology. The initial response to reading them was just one word WOW This is a reasonably common reaction not because the reader is stunned by verbal virtuosity but precisely the opposite. The form used is so simple and familiar that the reader is not distracted from the emotions and story's behind them. Love, betrayal, regret, friendship, confusion, anger, sadness and injustice are all topics covered within these pages, in a way that the reader will quickly identify. Yet at the same time the poems are not just simple one dimensional subjects. Read them again on a different day, with a different mood and you will discover new layers and complexities, that will make you laugh, cry or at the very least consider Below is one of SB Manns own personal favorites. Forgiveness The bitterness and rage below the surface, Serves no purpose, but will still increase the pain. The feeling that I've lost, what made me useful: The feeling that, I'll never trust again. But before, I'm quick to point the finger, How can I ask, forgiveness from my Lord If I cannot do the same for others? Then any penitence received, is surely flawed. So before, I pray for absolution, I must first, absolve with honest heart; Not with any kind of pre-selection and from this base, I'll make a brand new start. So please don't pray for me or for each other. I ask you first, to pray for all your foes. Seek in your heart, a way for their forgiveness And in this act, your true repentance shows. I know this task, will never be found easy, But when you do, contentment will be found. Resentments that once lurked, beneath the surface, Replaced with love and hope, on higher ground
