CONTINUATION OF THE SAME SUBJECT. JESUS CHRIST IS THE MOST FAVOURABLE OF ALL JUDGES. FIRST, BECAUSE HE IS FULL OF GOODNESS, AND KINDNESS. As we must all be judged, could we find in the whole world a judge in whom we could place greater hope and confidence than in the Son of God ? I can see none, either in heaven, or on earth, who could be more disposed to show us favour. In truth, if God had given me the liberty of choosing for myself a judge who should decide my eternity, that judge would not be my father, nor my brother, nor my friend; it would be Jesus Christ, Whom I should wish to take upon Himself the office of my Judge. For however favourable might be the dispositions of any other, do I not find them much more so in my Saviour ? First I should desire in my Judge, that he should be full of an unexampled goodness and kindness ; in the second place, that he knew perfectly every circumstance that might serve me as an excuse, and that he knew it, if that were possible, of himself, and by his own experience. I should wish also that he had a true love for me, that he was my own friend, my intimate friend. I should wish that this friend, besides his friendship for me, should have a personal interest in passing a favourable judgment, and in saving me. This is the judge I should like to have, and that every one else would wish to have, as well as myself. If we seek among men for all these qualities, we shall not find them in any one else but in Jesus Christ. I see them in Him in a degree which far surpasses what I might meet with among men.
