Give to your love its full nobility; guard it against self-seeking; let it be to you not narrowing, but enlarging; not secluding you in a selfish paradise, but taking you always into truer, tenderer, larger sympathies and companionships with other souls and other lives. You will have serious duties, but you will be able to fulfil them if you live near to the Source of all strength. You will have your share of trial and sorrow, but if you meet and bear it in the right spirit, it will yield you the blessing of fortitude, patience, self-control, wisdom, sympathy, thoughtfulness, and faith. In sorrow, as in joy, you will be in your Father's hands, learning obedience by the things which you suffer. And if you make your home the place of the highest affection, the noblest discipline, the most consecrated joys, the most transfigured sorrows, the sincerest religion, then it will be to you a shelter from the storm and a shadow from the heat of life; and a foretaste of, and training for that higher and fairer world where joy is perfect and unceasing, and to which we can give no better name than Home. Listen to the duties of husbands and wives as they are plainly set forth in the Sacred Scriptures:--Husbands, love your wives; dwell with them according to knowledge; giving honour unto the wife, as being heirs together of the grace of life.
