Excerpt: ...or beings and the distinction of persons, we presume will be readily admitted by all trinitarians, even those of the most moderate views, In Chapter IV of our work we have given a few testimonies in favor, of such a plurality and distinction of persons. And the number of such testimonies could have been greatly multiplied. Surely Mr. Clark will not deny, with the views of the Trinity which we presume he holds, that there are three distinct persons or beings recognized in the baptismal formula. Mr. W. R. Williams, a Baptist minister and author, thus speaks of the personality and distinction of the Holy Spirit, and he, of course, would give to the Father and Son the same distinction: "He is as really a person as Abraham or David, or any of the patriarchs, or as Paul, John, or either of the apostles. Is the Son distinguishable from the Father, so is the Spirit also. When you were baptized, it was into his dread and distinct name, invoked upon you, as you sank beneath the entombing waters, and rose again to the upper air."--The Baptist Pulpit of the United States: hy Dr. Belcher, pages 40, 41. With such a plurality and distinction of persons as Mr. Williams recognizes in the baptismal formula, we shall have a plurality of names and also of persons. The following is from a work called The Act of Baptism in the History of the Christian Church: by H. S. Burrage, a minister of the Baptist church. "But the great commission is a witness against, not for trine immersion. As Dr. Conant has shown, 'To justify such a practice, the form should have been either 'in the names of,' or 'in the name of the Father, and in the name of the Son, and in the name of the Holy Spirit.'
